At the end of January 2024, Beijing Polytechnic University organized 11 teachers and students to go to Tunisia to participate in the "Belt and Road" International Young Talents China-Tunisia Cultural Exchange Ambassador Activity, which lasted for 10 days.

Tunisia, located in North Africa and on the southern side of the Mediterranean Sea, is a country integrating Mediterranean culture, Arab culture and Islamic culture, and it has rich historical and cultural resources. Since the Belt and Road Initiative was proposed, the cooperation between China and Tunisia in fields such as education and science and technology has been deepening day by day. In 2024, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Tunisia, the teachers and students of the school deeply experienced the social culture of Tunisia through activities such as visiting institutions of higher learning, and carried out cultural exchanges with local college students, which enhanced the mutual understanding between the young people of the two countries and built a bridge of friendship.

This activity received great attention from the local government and universities in Tunisia. On January 22, Mr. Mondher Sik Ali, the Governor of Monastir Province in Tunisia, warmly received all members of the delegation. He said that the local government departments of Monastir Province and the city had made full preparations to welcome the Chinese delegation, and hoped that Chinese young students could enjoy their study tour in Tunisia.

Visiting institutions of higher learning to strengthen educational exchanges. Organized by the organizer, during this activity, the teachers and students visited institutions of higher learning such as the University of Monastir in Tunisia, the Faculty of Dental Medicine in Monastir, the Tourism Institute in Monastir, and the Language School in Moknine. At the University of Monastir, students from different colleges successively visited the School of Mechanical Sciences, the School of Medicine, the School of Biotechnology, the School of Economics and Management, and the School of Fashion Design of the university, and actively carried out exchanges with Tunisian teachers and students based on their professional knowledge. During this period, the President of the University of Monastir presented a commemorative cup with the university emblem to our school.

Visiting historical sites to enhance cultural understanding. Tunisia has rich historical and cultural heritages, and a large number of historical sites from the Carthaginian period and the Roman Empire period have been preserved. During the study tour, the teachers and students of the school visited historical and cultural sites such as the Museum of Habib Bourguiba, the first President of Tunisia, the Ribat coastal defense castle built in the 7th century AD, the Amphitheatre of El Jem, the second largest existing Roman amphitheatre in the world built in the 3rd century AD, the ancient city of Carthage, and the Great Mosque of Kairouan. Through the combination of on-site visits and course explanations, they further deepened their understanding of the history of Tunisia, Arab and Islamic cultures.

Carrying out cultural exchanges to deepen the friendship among young people. The relationship between countries lies in the affinity between their people. During the study tour in Tunisia, the teachers and students of the school actively carried out cultural exchanges, introduced traditional Chinese cultures such as calligraphy and paper-cutting to foreign friends, and enabled Tunisian young people to have a deeper understanding of China. The team participated in the promotion activity of Chinese Culture Day held by the Tourism Institute of Monastir, demonstrated calligraphy on the spot at the China-Tunisia Youth Exchange Gala, and sang the song "Welcome to Beijing", which was well received by Tunisian teachers and students. The team also successively visited cultural venues such as the International Museum of Art in Monastir and the Historical Museum of Moknine City to learn about the local culture and history; went to local olive oil production factories and pottery production factories to learn about Tunisia's local industries; and cooperated with the local The Big Blue Marine Conservation Association to clean up marine garbage and practice the concept of environmental protection. In a series of rich and fulfilling activities, the students and Tunisian young people have continuously deepened their acquaintance and understanding of each other.

This study tour to Tunisia received great attention from the local media, and the figures of the teachers and students of our school frequently appeared in the local mainstream media. During the study tour, as representatives, the teachers and students of our school were interviewed by the TV station of Monastir Province and were guests on the Tunisian National Radio Station, conveying friendly voices. At the summary and exchange meeting, as the only representative of a higher education institution, our school made an exchange report to the main officials of Monastir Province.

Through this "Belt and Road" International Young Talents China-Tunisia Cultural Exchange Ambassador Activity, the students of our school have further broadened their international horizons and enhanced their cross-cultural communication abilities. Our school is the only vocational college among the dispatched institutions of higher learning. The teachers and students of the school actively participated in various activities, conveyed the voice of vocational education in external exchanges, and showed the spirit of China's higher vocational education and vocational education students to the Tunisian side. In the next step, the school will continue to adhere to the concept of international education, cultivate more high-quality technical and skilled talents with international exchange experience, tell the story of China's vocational education well to the outside world, and steadily improve the internationalization level of the school.
